Durga Navami 2021: Maa Siddhidhatri is the supreme form of Maha Shakti, Maha Navami is dedicated to her. She is also known as the killer of the demon Mahishasura, hence she is also known as ‘Mahisasuramardini’.
Maha Navami is the ninth day of worship of goddess Durga, a day before Vijaya Dashami during the Navratri festival. Durga Navami 2021 falls on October 14, Thursday this year.
On the Maha Navami, Mahasnan and Shodashopachar puja are performed. You can call a priest to perform Puja like any other day of worship and it is based on the scriptures.
The pink colour is the auspicious colour for Maha Navami day, so you can offer pink flowers and devotees wear pink clothes on the day.
People offer ‘pushpanjali’ i.e. different types of prayers while chanting to the mantras guided by the priest in pandals or temples.
According to the Hindu Panchang, there are 5 Navratras – Chaitra, Aashad, Ashwin, Paush, and Magh; among these 5, the Ashwin Navratri has the greatest significance among all and is celebrated across the nation.
Ashwin Navratri is also known as Shardiya Navratri or Durga Puja festival. During this Navratri nine avatars or forms of the ‘Durga’ are worshipped.

The 9 forms of the goddess Durga or are Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandharghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidathri. Every day is allocated as to worship each goddess according to Hindu scriptures. Maha Navami is dedicated to the worship of Ma Siddhidhatri, the supreme form of Maha Shakti or Mahisasuramardini.
या देवी सर्वभूतेषु मां सिद्धिदात्री रूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नम:।। :
“ॐ सिद्धिदात्री देव्यै नमः”।।
ओंकारपातु शीर्षो मां ऐं बीजं मां हृदयो।
